FENTON WILSON Fenton Wilson is the current Chairman of the Wairoa Community Development Trust. He farms a 235 hectare property with his wife Sue and their three children, in addition to being a Manager of Livestockeye - a livestock weighing, recording and reporting business based in Hawke’s Bay. Fenton has been involved in a number of roles including National Shearing Instructor, a Drought Recovery Co-ordinator, an Emergency Management Officer with the Wairoa District Council and a facilitator for local government projects. He is the immediate Past-President of the Wairoa A&P Society and Chairman of the Eastern District Council of the Royal Agricultural Society, as well as Treasurer for the Frasertown Primary School.
MIKE POLLOCK Mike Pollock is a Director and Shareholder of East Coast Lumber Limited and Wairoa Timber Processors. He is a fourth generation New Zealander, currently living in the Hawke’s Bay with his wife and three children. After attending Makora College in Masterton, Mike went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Otago before entering the forestry industry. Initially, he worked for Waitane Timber Products, a part of the lumber division of Carter Holt Harvey and Pan Pacific Forest Products Limited. In 2003, he and his business partner purchased East Coast Lumber Limited and focused on exporting high grade New Zealand pine to markets including the USA, Australia and the European Union. In 2006, Wairoa Timber Processors was formed in conjunction with the neighbouring mill. Mike will be operating businesses in Wairoa for a long time to come and he looks forward to adding significantly to the growth and development of the Wairoa District.
DENISE EAGLESOME Denise Eaglesome is Wairoa born and has an eight year old son. Her partner is a storeperson/manager for the local Ravensdown Fertiliser. Denise has had various jobs which include working at the Wairoa Star as an advertising sales representative, New Zealand Employment Service as an advisor, Wairoa Waikaremoana Trust Board as a tutor in retail skills and electorate secretary for Janet Mackey. She managed the Wairoa Community Centre for its first three years and is currently employed at the Wairoa College as the Youth Co-ordinator. She is in her second term of office as a Councillor at the Wairoa District Council and is Deputy Mayor. Denise has a passion for the community and loves the job she has working with youth to achieve their potential and career goals.
WENDY SWAN Wendy Swan is a fifth generation Wairoa resident, born into a farming family. She is now a Director of Steed and Swan Limited and operates the Morere Tearooms and Camping Ground and the Nuhaka General Store Wendy spent 14 years employed at the Wairoa Hospital – the last four of those as Department Head of Medical Records. She was responsible for Outpatient Services for Visiting Specialist clinics. She was also Project Co-ordinator for the development, installation and monitoring of the computerised information systems throughout the hospitals in Hawke’s Bay. For the past twelve years Wendy has been self-employed in the hospitality and tourism industry, operating a roadside tearoom and camping ground as well as being responsible for the Jason Brochure distribution, delivery and promotion of tourism information throughout Northern Hawke’s Bay and Gisborne. During this time she has also been Chairperson of the Morere Progressive Society and assisted with the development of a Heritage Trail.
LES PROBERT Les Probert is a local farmer and businessman and also Mayor of the Wairoa District. He has been involved in local politics for 25 years and is now in his third term as Mayor. Les’s son, Allan, and his wife are both veterinary surgeons in Wellington, and his daughter, Anne, is studying towards her PhD. His aim is to facilitate the development of the Wairoa District into the future. He sees that there is a huge potential that is as yet unrealised and sees The Wairoa Community Development Trust as the ideal vehicle to carry his visions into the future.
GORDON MCINTYREGordon McIntyre is a well known local businessman now fully retired which enables him to give a complete and dedicated service to the Wairoa people and district. He has served as a Councillor and was Council Representative on Hawke’s Bay Road Safe which promotes Road Safety and Council Representative on the Hawke’s Bay Medical Research Board which distributes funds for Medical Research. Gordon believes that we need to encourage all business and job opportunities and explore every opportunity for future employment for the District.
